McDermott, LTHE Clinch ONGC’s Vashishta and S1 Development project offshore India

A consortium of McDermott International and L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) has secured a contract for the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Vashishta and S1 Development project off India’s east coast.

Under the contract, the consortium will provide services including engineering, procurement, construction and installation of major subsea field infrastructure for the greenfield deepwater project.

McDermott International president and CEO David Dickson said: “The combination of our best-in-class, deepwater, shallow water and onshore assets and capabilities created a compelling value proposition and also maximised the amount of work that will be undertaken in India.”

The work will include supply and installation of a series of pipeline end terminations and in-line tee structures.

In addition, a pipeline end manifold structure, rigid jumpers and around 30 miles of umbilicals will also be installed.

The 64 miles of 14in dual rigid pipelines will extend from the shallow water shore line to a maximum water depth of 2,300ft.

McDermott International Asia vice-president Hugh Cuthbertson said: “This collaborative consortium created value by utilising LTHE’s strong execution capabilities and strategically located Kattupalli facility for fabrication, setting up a local spoolbase, and generating schedule efficiency by using a combination of deepwater reel-lay and S-lay in shallow water.

“In addition to the deployment of McDermott’s modular, portable spoolbase, McDermott’s Derrick Barge 30 (DB30) and deepwater North Ocean 105 (NO105) are also expected to be utilised.”

The VA & S1 fields are located 30km-35km off the Amalapuram coast in the KG Basin, off the east coast of India, at water depths of 250m to 700m.

In 1970, McDermott McDermott installed the first offshore platform for ONGC in Bombay High.
