Monadelphous secures contract to provide maintenance services for Shell’s Prelude FLNG

Engineering group Monadelphous has secured a contract worth more than $200m to provide maintenance and brownfield modifications services for Shell Australia’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project.

Prelude FLNG is located in the Browse Basin, 475km north-north-east of Broome in Western Australia.

Under the contract, Monadelphous will provide services to the LNG process plant, support utilities, hull and non-process infrastructure including accommodation and control rooms.

The company will also deliver fabrication services from Darwin in support of offshore operations. The contract is for an initial period of seven years and has a further two two-year extension options.

Monadelphous managing director Rob Velletri said: “We are especially pleased to be selected by Shell Australia as a major service provider for the Prelude FLNG facility.

“Our long-term goal is to become the partner of choice in the provision of FLNG services.”

The 488m long Prelude FLNG facility is 74m-wide and weighs more than 600,000t.

Its design includes various key safety features such as the layout of hydrocarbon processes from accommodation modules, enlarged safety gaps between process modules.

Prelude also has fire-proof protective coatings and product loading arms that have been designed specially.

The facility is anticipated to stay moored at the location for 25 years, and is expected to produce 3.6 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG, 1.3Mtpa of condensate as well as 0.4Mtpa of LPG for export.

Shell operates Prelude in partnership with Inpex (17.5%), Kogas (10%) and OPIC (5%).
